The HMMWV® Vehicle, better known as the HUMVEE® Truck, is the most influential military tactical vehicle of the current generation.
HMMWV® Vehicle is an abbreviation of High Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicle. It was designed to have most of the capabilities of a tracked vehicle yet still be roadworthy.
The HMMWV® Vehicle or Humvee® had to be versatile for an extremely diverse array of duties to meet the needs of all four military branches. It was created to have 14 different body configurations that could be interchanged as needed in the field (soft top, hard top, 4 door, 2 door, troop carrier, ambulance etc.)
The HUMVEE® Vehicle is built lightweight to enable it to be airlifted or parachuted into remote areas. It was developed to survive the very harshest and wettest environments in the world. It is capable of totally submerging its engine and power train in order to navigate water up to five feet deep.
The HUMVEE® Vehicle body needed to be strong but lightweight. The engineers tasked with designing it used aluminum and rivets similar to the technologies utilized in aircraft construction to build the body. The HUMVEE® Vehicle engine and components had to be able to operate underwater for sustained periods. This was an engineering feat of its own. From waterproofing to corrosion protection to pressurizing the mechanical components, everything had to be re-engineered to not only survive underwater but to be able to be serviced and be maintained in the field.
The HUMVEE® Vehicle has changed very little since first commissioned over 30 years ago. Their dependability and versatility in the field have been notably praised by the Army, Navy, Air Force, and Marines. The HUMVEE® Vehicle has earned the respect of all military divisions around the world.
No other vehicle has ever been built this way.
The team at WaterCar respected the true greatness of the HUMVEE® Vehicle and recognized that it would make an ideal platform for an amphibious vehicle.
